Congratulations to freshman Maddie Schrader and junior Cooper Summy for earning a chance to compete at state in cross country. The race will be held at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois Saturday, November 8th.
This is Maddie Schrader's first appearance at the state meet. She earned a time of 18:13 at sectionals, a personal record for her. Schrader has been running cross country since 5th grade at Milburn Middle School. She says she is "a little nervous, but excited" to run at state. "The best part of running is the sense of accomplishment after finishing the race," Schrader says.
Cooper Summy will be returning for his third time, having run the last two years in Peoria as a team. His 15:18 sectional time was also a personal record. "I'm feeling good [about state]. I'm very confident that I can drop time against the competition," Summy said.
According to Summy, many non runners don't really understand the sport. "Everyone gets caught up on the work, and they don't understand how good it feels when you have success on the course."
Lakes wishes good luck Maddie and Cooper. A state walk was held to send them off on Friday between second and third hour.
