Red arrow timer for 5 minutes

D117 Families, Students, and Staff,

This is the August edition of our monthly update, where you will receive timely reminders, links to upcoming events, and news from Community High School District #117. We promise to keep this to a 5-minute read (or less!)!

1. Tomorrow Night is the Opportunity for All Families to Meet Their Student’s Teachers!

We invite all parents and guardians to attend “Back to School Night” this Thursday, August 28, where they will have the opportunity to follow their student’s schedule and put a face to the name of all their student’s teachers. Our October parent-teacher conferences are prioritized for students who have a grade of less than C in their class, so this Thursday is the easiest opportunity for you to meet all of the teachers in one night! Read the principal's weekly newsletter for your school, which includes details about the night (see the next item for instructions).

2. Principal’s Weekly Newsletters are Your “One Stop Shop” for Key Info!

Please remember that you can view Dr. Berrie’s (“Sequoit Weekly”) and Ms. Bowen’s (“News from the Nest”) super informative weekly newsletters in your email inbox and anytime on our websites at the very first link on the top left of the menu bar titled “Quick Links” OR just click here for ACHS or here for LCHS. This is the “one stop shop” for you to get the most current answers to your questions when you think “When was the date for X?” or “Who do I contact for Y”?!

3. Homecoming at ACHS & LCHS is in September! Bookmark our calendars page to stay up to date!

Homecoming week at LCHS is the second week of September, and ACHS is the third week in September! Be sure to bookmark our calendar hub at www.chsd117.org/page/calendars to stay up-to-date on all the Homecoming events and share them with alumni, family, and friends!

4. Partnership with Glenbard Parent Series - Free online events with nationally renowned experts!

We have partnered again this year with the Glenbard Parent Series to provide free access to the Zoom feed for all of their events with nationally renowned experts on parenting, college admissions, mental health, personal wellness, and substance abuse prevention. Please review the brochure of their upcoming events at this link and find the Zoom link for upcoming sessions on the website at this link.

5. “If You See Something, Say Something” - Reminder of the Anonymous Tip Line

The safety and security of our students and staff will always be our first priority. Our district takes all situations very seriously and does not tolerate joking about school safety. Please remain vigilant and communicate with staff immediately if you are aware of potential threats to individuals, groups, or the school at large. The golden rule will always be: “If you see something, say something.”

Students and community members can always text LAKECO to 1-844-823-5323 to report potential threats to our safety and security anonymously. They will receive an immediate text response from a trained, professional counselor.

This tip line is not only for potential threats. It can also be used if you or a loved one is going through a mental health crisis. Make a note that you can always text LAKECO to 1-844-823-5323

Ping us back! If you have a question about any of these items or would like to suggest a topic for our September update, please feel free to share your idea with our superintendent, Dr. Jeff Feucht via email (jeff.feucht@chsd117.org) or via phone (direct line: 847.838.7679).
