A new opportunity in the Career Tech Education department has drawn 27 students to Mr. Snyder’s first hour Coding in Python class. This class gives students the opportunity to learn how to use the programming language Python. Students are able to earn industry recognized certifications in Python as they progress through the curriculum.
According to Snyder, the class “came about because we saw the need to have more avenues for computer science in the schools.” Previously, students were limited to AP Computer Science classes offered by the math department.
“Each unit gives the students a new technique or programming function to learn, and they will practice it with a program. Right now, we are learning animation. The students start from zero and gradually works their way up,” said Snyder.
The Coding in Python class will continue to expand in future years. There is one class this year, but next year level 2 will be offered. “Each year, for the next year we will roll out another level. When it’s all said and done, we potentially will have four years of coding,” said Snyder.
Interested students can sign up for Coding in Python for next year when they meet with their counselors for class registration. This class is available to next year’s freshmen as well.
