This is the July edition of a monthly update wherein you will receive timely reminders, links for upcoming events, and news from Community High School District #117. We promise to keep this to a 5 minute read (or less!)!
1. School Board Vacancy
Community High School District 117 is accepting resumes to fill a School Board vacancy. Ms. Cynthia Collins announced her resignation during the regular Board of Education meeting on July 18 due to personal commitments. Ms. Collins has served on the Board since 2021, providing invaluable service to the students of ACHS and LCHS and the broader community. The Board appreciates her commitment to our students over the past 4 years and thanked her publicly for her service at their regular Board of Education Meeting last week. Individuals interested in applying for the vacancy are asked to complete an online application and submit a resume on or before August 5, 2024. 2. Great AP Test Scores!
Results from the AP tests our students took last spring are now available online. Students can check their scores by logging into their College Board account. We saw great gains in our scores as a district! Our districtwide passing rate increased by 4% with more than two-thirds of our students receiving a score that will earn them college credit! Additionally, the number of tests increased by 134 exams for a total of 1,516 tests taken! Congratulations to all of our students who successfully completed AP courses last year!
3. Important Dates for the Start of School
As you build your family calendars for August, we want to make sure the following dates are on your calendar:
- Wednesday, August 14 - Freshman Orientation Day - freshman only - All incoming freshman families will receive additional information about the schedule and details before the end of July.
- Monday, August 19 - Freshman First Day - first day for freshman only
- Tuesday, August 20 - First Day of School for All Students Grades 9-12
