Yesterday, we gathered in our gym to honor the men and women in our community who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The event, an annual tradition in D117, was organized this year by the LCHS Social Studies department. Faculty, family, community members, and alumni were recognized for their service. The band and choir performed an armed forces medley as well.
Principal Jori Bowen, U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider, and J. Ron Gillespie, a District 117 coach and substitute teacher, delivered moving speeches about leadership, service, sacrifice, and the importance of Veteran's Day. Social Studies teacher and veteran Mr. Jim Anderson created a slideshow featuring hundreds of pictures showcasing family members, alumni, and community servicemen and women.
