Micah Lind - Academic All State

Lakes Community High School senior Micah Lind has been selected to join the Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) prestigious All-State Academic Team. "This is a tremendous honor and I hope every student who was nominated takes a great deal of pride in all that they have accomplished," said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson.

The selection process for the All-State Academic Team is highly competitive, with Lind being one of just 26 students chosen from a group that included hundreds of nominees throughout the state. To be eligible for nomination, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale after the 7th semester, participate in at least two IHSA-sponsored activities during each of the last two years, and demonstrate outstanding citizenship during their high school career.

Lind is a percussionist who has been playing since 4th grade, and he is also a drummer in the jazz band and marching band. In addition, he has been running since 5th grade and is a leader of the boys cross country team.

Despite his busy schedule, Lind still manages to find time to volunteer for Love INC, a Lake County nonprofit organization that helps deliver furniture to people in need. "My grandpa was involved with [Love INC]. I do it now with my dad and brother," said Lind.

Lind's exceptional academic performance and leadership roles in sports and fine arts were among the reasons he was nominated for the All-State Academic Team. "Micah is one the top stats students I've had in eight years," said math teacher Brian Phelan. Lind is known for being a good thinker and for using his class time wisely. He also has a great understanding of statistics and helps other students understand the subject.

"I believe that time management is the key," said Lind. "I balance sports, fine arts, and academics and I am selective about what I study."

The IHSA All-State Academic Team has been recognizing outstanding seniors from IHSA member schools for 31 years, with over $650,000 in scholarship money awarded. Lind's nomination and selection for this prestigious program is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his education and extracurricular activities.
